Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp visited Brickhouse Restaurant in Folkston on Friday, April 13. Kemp is a Republican candidate for Governor and will appear on the primary ballot on May 22.
During the visit Kemp spoke with several local government officials, business owners and citizens from Charlton and Brantley Counties. Following a meal Kemp addressed those in attendance providing some of his background as a small business owner for over 30 years and informed that he would ensure that all parts of Georgia, including rural areas, have opportunities to grow and thrive. Kemp told of four areas he would focus on including: making Georgia number one for small business through cutting red tape and healthcare reform; strengthening rural Georgia by promoting economic development and supporting farmers, agri-business and small town start-ups; reforming State Government by placing a cap on spending with conservative budgeting, refunding money to taxpayers and enhancing transparency and accountability; putting Georgia first through preventing sanctuary cities and protecting Georgia values.
Kemp also mentioned during the visit of a plan to develop a Rural Georgia Development Task Force comprised of individuals with experience and knowledge of rural Georgia. The task force would be tasked by working with local citizens, businesses and governments to promote rural growth and development.
