The Charlton County Board of Education held a regularly scheduled meeting, Tuesday, July 16. During the meeting, the board recognized Patsy Allen for receiving the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting. The award was presented by Michael Haire, from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts. Allen has been honored with this award four times consecutively. Dr. Lairsey thanked Allen, and those involved with reporting, for all of their hard work.
Also during the meeting, members approved the fleet insurance bid for the school buses from Auto Owners Insurance in the amount of $20,436.00. There is an increase of $1,800.00, which comes from adding two buses. They also approved the student handbooks, the final reading of the School Admissions policy, as well as the Employee Tobacco Use policy. The board also acknowledged the Five-year Local Plan Resolution for the 2020 fiscal year, which is required by the state.
The board approved the following new hires: Charlton County High School/Athletic Trainer, Brad Westerbeck; Folkston Elementary School Kindergarten teacher, Kristen Reid; Substitute Assistants, Brett Strickland and Nannie Mae Mitchell, and Bethune Middle School Special Education Teacher, Cynthia Grooms.
