The Charlton County Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday, October 22. 

During the meeting, Superintendent Dr. John Lairsey announced Charlton County High School had the second-highest graduation rate, as of 2019, following Bacon County. He expressed his gratitude of the work of the graduation coach and the follow-up from the counselors. He also stated how pleased the school system is with the CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) scores.

Also during the meeting, the board approved the bids from Bill Williams, in the amount of $65,693.00 to add air conditioning to the Charlton County High School weight room, and Gantt Heating and Air Conditioning in the amount of $129,655.00 to add eight, and relocate current air units for the CCHS gym. Both will be paid for with ESPLOST funds. 

The board also approved the Occupational Therapy Agreement with Sunbelt Staffing; the Sales Agreement with Warren Kidd, of Jacksonville, for .54 acre east of CCHS for $7,000.00, approved the millage rate of 17.20 for the 2020 Fiscal Year, going down from 17.25, and hired Videll Johnson and Patricia Dismuke as substitute bus drivers.

The board entered executive session at 7:30 p.m. and exited at 8:20 p.m. No action was taken. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m.
