Dorothy Mae (Beasley) Reed was born January 1, 1946, in Hogansville, Georgia to the late Claude Rean Beasley and Gussie Bell Beasley. She received her education in the Charlton County school system.

On Saturday, May 18, 2019, she lost the battle to her illness with her family by her side. Dorothy had a quiet demeanor, but she loved having her family around her. She was a homemaker and made it a habit of taking care of others, never wanting to see them without. She would loan more than an ATM could contain at times.

Regular trips to WalMart were a treat, watching the Waltons TV series and discussing encouraging thoughts from the Bible.

On October 4, 1974, Dorothy married her late husband, Freeman Reed, Jr. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in rest by her daughter, Patricia Ann Battle; sister, Eva Sue Roche; and grandson Dominique Battle.

To always remember her as a loving mom, grandmama, sister and friend are sons, Anthony Beasley, Craig (Felecia) Reed, Brian Curtis (Shannon) Reed, Vandell (Danny) (Verda Mae) Hannans, and daughters Beulah (Derek) Smith, Patricia (Lester) Hamilton, and Darlene Albury; a sister, Carrie Lee (Robert) Woodard; 13 grandchildren, Samantha, Latrina, Patricia, Jalisa, Shalonda, Tequila, Craneshia, Lakevia, Nakia, Craig Jr., Kiara, Brian Jr., and Daevian; nine great-grands; special nieces, Rose (Speedy) and Juanita (Pookie); special nephew, Robert Woodard, Jr.; special friends, Albirtha (Bert) Bradley and Ruby Lee Monroe.

Her family said, “Having Dorothy in our midst has been the best thing that happened to many of us because of the love and her giving spirit. Your warm embrace will be cherished forever”.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, at the Charlton County High School gymnasium.

Final arrangements entrusted to Royal Funeral Home, Inc., Jesup.
